MOORE FAMILY PROJECT PHASE 1:
NEW KITCHEN & DINING ROOM
When work began on the Moore residence in late 2006, plans included a kitchen addition and a screened-in porch. The kitchen of the 1930’s Hilton home was in need of additional work space as well as a modernized update. We started by demolishing an existing bay window, exterior door and concrete steps in the rear of the home. The kitchen addition took their place, complete with five windows and an exterior door. This new door connected the kitchen to the screened in porch which was to house a hot tub and storage closet for towels & supplies. In order to keep the porch itself low maintenance and resistant to water, the Moore’s chose to have it built with composite decking in a light shade of gray with a white frame and trim. White beadboard was added to the ceiling for visual affect as well as a ceiling fan to keep cool air circulating through the summer months. To add function and visual beauty to the backyard, a landscaper was later brought in to lay brick pavers and sod. The kitchen itself received a complete overhaul - cabinets, granite countertops, appliances, lighting fixtures, flooring and paint. In order to achieve a flow between the new and the old, archways were built to match. The new wood floor was installed on a 45 degree angle to line up with the existing floor. Custom display cabinets and pantry shelves were built to suit the homeowners’ artistic style. As work progressed, the Moore’s brought forth ideas about adding more space and value to their home. These ideas would later come to fruition as Phases 2 & 3. Keep an eye out for our February and March newsletters to read all about it.
