Adding A New Front Porch in Virginia BeachWhen it’s cold and dreary outside, it can be hard to focus on your outdoor living space. But as we’ve mentioned before, there isn’t a better time to make an upgrade so that when the anticipated warm weather arrives, you can enjoy it. The Fralick family decided to give their home a “face lift” by adding a front porch last winter, with plenty of time to spare before the arrival of sunny summer days. To start, the original shutters and siding on the face of their home were removed and the groundwork was laid for a 30 by 6 foot porch. A concrete walkway was poured to lead from the driveway to the new brick stairs, centered on the porch. Vinyl columns and rails provide a nice match to the new white siding, as well as durability and little to no maintenance. New gutters and downspouts were installed and the shingles on the porch’s roof were selected to match the existing roof of the home. The shutters were replaced with a raised-panel style in black – a nice contrast to the white siding. Bead board on the porch ceiling gives it a finished look with added dimension. Finally, two ceiling fans were added to improve air circulation and increase comfort on those hot summer days.
