Family Gets a New Kitchen in Hampton
Out with the Old and in with the New for the Wilson Family Home Improvement
When Mr. & Mrs. Wilson decided to revamp their dated kitchen, it was “out with the old and in with the new.” But, this job was more than just a swap-out-the-old-appliances kind of remodel. The kitchen’s original layout used space poorly. It felt crowded with the protruding eat-in dinette and appliances placed in close proximity. A complete redesign was necessary for the new kitchen to meet the Wilson family’s needs.
To start the process, every existing item in their kitchen was completely removed; from the lighting to the cabinets and flooring. The homeowners chose beautiful new wood cabinets designed to optimize the use of their kitchen space. This included corner cabinets, one with a glass door for displaying dishware, and a handful of extra wide drawers for storage. The refrigerator was relocated to the corner of the kitchen where furniture once awkwardly resided. This relocation allowed for additional cabinetry, both along the side of the oven and next to the entry door. The dishwasher was moved to the opposite side of the sink, thus allowing freedom of movement between the appliances. New granite countertops with an under-mount sink were a valuable upgrade, while the vinyl flooring with a tile-look was versatile and attractive without breaking the budget. Under-cabinet lighting and a pendant light over the sink provided well-lit work areas as well as a softened look. Finishing touches, such as stainless switch plates and cabinet hardware pulled it all together for a sophisticated modern day look to this new kitchen.
